The Case of the Disappearing Witch

CASEIn a little theatre, off off off Broadway, Simon Gray is attempting to direct a production of Macbeth, but every actress that plays Witch #3, disappears. Simon calls in his old friend, Mojo Sam. When Mojo sees an actress vanish before his eyes, he brings in Little Frieda, a girl who looks about 12 years old, wears pigtails that rise straight up in the air when she senses danger, smokes Havana cigars, and has no pupils in her eyes. She can see thought forms. When she finally talks Simon into allowing her to play Witch #3, Little Frieda also disappears, in fact, right on stage, “Poof!” she’s gone. But then, in the Realm of the Muse, Little Frieda meets the real Witch #3, and she is sizzling mad and out for revenge.

Wait ‘til you hear the music that Tim Clark did. It is awesome! Really exceptional, a full orchestra backing the skewered humor of Meatball Fulton’s script, along with his really bent take on Macbeth’s witches.

Review by Brion Emde

This is a brilliant story, with layers of presence and meaning. The atmospheric ambiance of the 3D is sometimes uncanny.  The songs are beautiful and obviously a lot of thought went into them, as I find myself singing them to myself. The themes are those timeless themes that we love hearing about again and again: love; death; heroism; deceit and so on.

I recommend this without reservation to anyone who wants to listen to a great story, masterfully performed, with heartfelt music and lovely sentiment. I’ve listened to this album tens of times in the last year or so and I sing along when I do.

Recipe For Murder Pt 1

RMThis is the first half of a series of eight mysteries. The hero, Jean-Claude, is a young sous-chef living in Montréal. In the first episode, A Sweet Death, the police arrest his close friend, Georges-Luc (who is from Haiti), charging him with murder. Jean-Claude proceeds to investigate on his own. A sweet death indeed, for this episode deals with the making of chocolates, all sorts, and the descriptions are heavenly.

Each story deals with a different type of food. The writer, Don Druick, is a gourmet cook from Montréal; his descriptions of various dishes and their preparation are so vivid, so enticing, there are times it’s almost painful to listen without wanting to run out and stuff yourself.

Each story focuses on a different type of cuisine. A Sweet Death deals with not only chocolates, but all sorts of sweets (and some of those sweeties are deadly). The second story, Buzz Buzz, centers around various delectable insects (and the nasty competition between two teachers at a cooking school). In Fugu, there’s Japanese cuisine; in The Ghost of Miz B, it’s Jewish cooking. And there’s also a murder to solve in every story.

Since our own writer, M. Fulton, once worked at a radio station in Montréal, and has a fondness for that city and it’s night life, he suggested we record on location; in the sidewalk cafés, restaurants, the Métro, the cobbled streets of Vieux Montréal, wherever the scenes actually take place. The sound is wonderfully rich, especially hearing Montréal in the summer … it’s visually stimulating, the descriptions are enticing, and the smells are exquisite.  2.5 hours.

The Night Has Begun

the-night-has-begunPolly Parker believes someone has put a curse on her fiancé, Clifford Barnett. Clifford and his partner, Alan Hendrix, are what’s called headhunters, they find executives to run companies. Polly suspects, and so does Dixon, this may be a real headhunters curse.

Dixon’s friend, Orpheus, knows all about curses. His business card states, “Are You Cursed? See Orpheus, Curses Reversed!” But Orpheus won’t touch this one, it’s too real. He sends Dixon & Sparks to see Dr. Pew, an anthropologist at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Delbert Pew has lived among the Asmat headhunters of Irian Jaya. While he takes them on a tour of the Met’s incredible collection of Asmat primitive art, Dixon exclaims, “Oh my god, these things are alive!” Delbert confirms, “The Asmat believe their ancestor’s spirits actually live within the works of art.”

When something bad happens, the Asmat believe it’s caused by someone else. And they are very good at “restoring the balance,” that is, getting their revenge.

But a headhunter’s curse in Manhattan? Not likely. And yet, Hendrix and Barnett have been receiving frightening phone calls in the night. When Dixon & Sparks begin receiving calls on their cell phones, with strange gibberish and chanting, they suspect if this is an Asmat curse, then the primitive headhunters have gone hi-tech.

Note: If possible, use headphones.

Saratoga Fat Cats

!cid_3FE99AF8-7C0F-427F-AE8E-5B98F2071DEEWillie, who paints houses, is hired by an abundantly wealthy man to repaint a few rooms in his summer mansion. His girlfriend, a wet T-shirt model for Sports Illustrated, can’t stand the colors. Her name is Christy St. Nichols, she’s a pretty down-to-earth gal, she knows the sexy modeling she’s doing is simply fulfilling unfulfilled male fantasies.

One day someone shoots out the windows in the summer mansion. Seems like the rich guy, Lucas Trust is his name, may have been involved in something that wasn’t all that up & up. Since Christy is allergic to cats, Lucas gives the gardener, his name is Shades, his two fat pussycats to take look after.

Willie loves to read cheap pulpy detective novels, his favorite is a P.I. by the name of Short Top Detroit. When Willie almost gets blown up with a car bomb, along with Lucas, it so shakes him up, he’s now hearing Short Top inside his own head.

Sounds Real

The sound is warm and intimate because it was recorded with Fritz. To hear the 3D effect, listen with headphones or earbuds. It’s probably the most realistic, natural sounding production we’ve done. Mr. Fulton wrote it specifically for Mr. Fritz.  2.5 hours.
